Sue Brown - Welfare Officer/Counsellor
I have been suffering from ‘Carpel Tunnel Syndrome’ for at least 4 maybe 5 years. I have tried various forms of treatment, including Chiropractic treatment and resorted to receiving a cortisone injection in December 2006. As I was experiencing so much discomfort I even agreed to my GP referring me to a specialist for possible surgery (something I had been trying to avoid).

I met Diksha in a professional capacity when she came as a MSD Consultant (Musculo-Skeletal Disorder Consultant), to the Health Awareness Fair at the company I used to work for. I decided to consult her after the various treatments I had tried had failed to make any significant impact, and having more cortisone injections did not appeal to me.

My treatment started in February.  I had 4 weekly treatments, then fortnightly for the next 2 months and since the beginning of May, I have been seeing Diksha on a monthly basis. During this time Diksha has treated my back, neck, shoulders, elbow and wrists with Deep Massage, Mobilsation and Realignment techniques. She has spent a lot of time correcting my posture and teaching me simple exercises that are essential to maintain progress. I can honestly say I haven't looked back or regretted my decision to consult her. My symptoms have greatly diminished and continue to do so.

When I saw Diksha for the first time (during one of her treatment presentations) I thought: "Such a petite & fragile lady! How could she move any of my stiffened and painful joints or bones?"

My back felt immune to painkillers after many years spent in front of the computer (and carefully avoiding any kind of physical exercise!). So I took the chance to go to her. Her touch was even more delicate and painless than I expected but she had obviously "done something" (even if I did not feel it) to my joints and bones because I left like floating on air, slept like a log and for two days did not feel any pain! During following appointments her warm personality made me feel relaxed and I began discussing various aspects of my personal life, upon which commented with sensitivity and understanding. I understood then that she was treating me with a holistic approach and it felt so good!

But the last time, I was doubtful that Diksha could help me. My chest had been painful following a very bad cold and my doctor, unable to diagnose the problem, sent me to have X-rays done. Diksha carried out a few light adjustments on my ribs... and I could breathe without pain and the pain has not returned!

What finally sent me to get help was running. I remember clearly after a run, coming home with a large amount of pain behind my right shoulder blade. This got worse before subsiding, and I found myself with permanent pins-and-needles in my right hand and finger tips. This condition lasted for a period of about 3 days, and was enough of a scare for me to go and see Diksha.

The treatment provided by Diksha is an immediate relief to the pain in ones back, neck and whatever else. But as she will tell you, it is not a solution. The only solution is to change your behaviour. Change the way you think first of all - denial didn't work for me, and I don't imagine it will work for anyone else. Understand that you have to live with your condition, but that you can manage it with some simple tricks and good habits. Amongst other things, Diksha showed me how to sit, how to stand, how to stretch and how to spot problems. (Lying on my back on the floor for 5 minutes everyday is my favourite.)

My own experiences have shown me that a holistic approach to RSI and back trouble is best. My back let go when I was stressed. It was ignorable up to that point. I have had to learn to listen to what various bits of my body are trying to tell me, rather than saying 'shut-up-and-obey' and taking some paracetamol. Seek out and ameliorate sources of stress. I would advise against trying to divorce your physical health from your mental wellbeing. I have found that the two are linked and can never be separated. Additionally, I found it useful to learn about what is happening at a medical level with my various problems. For me, a basic understanding of the medical issues gave me more confidence and ability to deal with them.
